All Mead styles are eligible for Valhalla competition:
Categories for judging are based on a minimum number of entries and will be combined as needed. For a complete overview of BJCP style guidelines Click Here.
Dry Traditional Mead (24A) - features the character of a blended honey or a blend of honeys.
Semi-sweet Traditional Mead (24B) - features the character of a blended honey or a blend of honeys.
Sweet Traditional Mead (24C) - features the character of a blended honey or a blend of honeys.
Cyser (25A) - a standard mead made with the addition of apples or apple juice.
Pyment (25B) - a standard mead made with the addition of grapes or grape juices.
Other Fruit Melomel (25C) - a standard mead made with the addition of fruit or fruit juices other than apple or grape.
Metheglin (26A) - a standard mead made with the addition of spices or herbs.
Braggot (26B) - standard mead made with both honey and malt providing flavor and fermentable extract.
Other Mead (26C) - a honey-based beverage that either combines ingredients from two or more of the other mead sub-categories, or is a mead that does not fit into any other category.
We suggest (but do not require) sending 2 Bottles per entry for sparkling meads so a fresh bottle can be opened for BOS..
